In 2013, NOPJF began the effort of overhauling and modernizing the NOPD hiring process.  At the time, NOPD was operating with a paper application and a lengthy hiring process that spanned the better part of a year. Today, the process is digital with applicants applying online at the joinNOPD.org website, taking the civil service exam remotely from anywhere in the country, and completing an electronic statement of personal history online. Additionally, working with the Consent Decree monitoring team, the NOPJF helped bring the NOPD Recruitment Unit into compliance with the Federal Consent Decree.

In 2023, NOPJF transitioned stewardship of application generation back to NOPD. NOPJF passed to NOPD one of the most sophisticated and effective police recruiting tools in the nation, including a custom instance of Salesforce and a multi-media national marketing apparatus responsible for over 45,000 applicants of which 25% were multilingual, 60% had college experience, and 20% served in the armed forces. While NOPJF was not responsible for NOPD hiring, we are proud of our work attracting qualified candidates to NOPD. The revamped process ensures NOPD has the ability to recruit and hire the best applicants in a competitive recruiting environment.
