SafeCam NOLA is an innovative community safety initiative that allows residents and businesses to partner with NOPD in the fight against crime. Citizen-provided camera footage is an invaluable asset to police, helping establish leads, identify perpetrators, and prosecute criminals.
Community members can register their security cameras with NOPD in minutes from their smartphone, tablet, or computer through the SafeCam NOLA website (www.safecamnola.com). Registrations are then stored in a secure database. SafeCam NOLA does not provide NOPD with direct access to private camera footage. Residents are only contacted in the event NOPD detectives are investigating a crime in the vicinity of their camera and seek video evidence to solve the crime. This resource expedites investigations and empowers residents to partner with NOPD in the fight for a safer city.
With video surveillance an essential part of the New Orleans Police Department’s crime-fighting efforts and Police regularly relying on security camera footage to identify, arrest, and convict violent offenders, NOPJF launched the SafeCam Platinum program. Through SafeCam Platinum, community members can link designated security cameras to the Real Time Crime Center (RTCC). Cameras connected to the RTCC not only provide immediate access to footage needed to identify perpetrators, solve crimes, and improve public safety, but they also provide a myriad of public safety enhancements. Real time analysis can provide crucial seconds for EMS to locate a victim, offer situational awareness during a fire, help monitor illegal dumping activity, and provide city officials with real-time information on flooding and other storm-related hazards.
